Fossicking is a popular and rewarding activity
in the Oberon district, with a number of designated fossicking
areas accessible to the public.
In 1993 a moratorium was placed over these
areas to assess if they should be preserved. This is still
in
place, so they are recognised fossicking areas not open to
exploration or mining leases, public access is limited to a
few small areas.
The Visitor Information Centre has some basic
information and you can hire equipment (booking essential)
and more details can be obtained from the Department
of Mineral Resources.
During drought conditions it is advisable
to provide your own water supply as streams may be dry. |
